My son turned 5 last Friday. He loves soccer, he asked me to make him a soccer cake for his birthday party. Not just a plan boring cake but a 3 dimensional cake. So I was on a hunt to find out how on earth I was going to accomplish this! I turned to my favorite place Pinterest and found a really cool soccer cake picture with of coarse no directions on how to make it so I had to wing it.
Yes, I used boxed cake mix and already made icing.
Here is how to make a soccer cake:
1 cake mix makes 2 round cakes. Cook them according to the directions and once they are cooled trim off the top of one of the cakes so that when you stack them they are not wobbly. Then the part you trimmed place on the bottom face down so that when you ice the cake the crumbly cake where you trimmed doesn't get clunky in your icing.
Ice the cakes stacked on top of each other.
Using a toothpick I etched int he icing the black icing for the design of the soccer ball.
It didn't turn out as I expected, drawing a soccer ball design wasn't as easy as I thought it would be.
Then I baked cupcakes and when they cooled I added the green icing by adding green food coloring in the icing jar and mixed it till it was all green. Green for the grass.
Once iced I placed the green iced cupcakes around the soccer ball. The soccer ball is the soccer field and the green cupcakes is the grass around the soccer field.
I purchased some soccer figures for the cake off Amazon. Then added them to the cake!
I was glad he enjoyed it, that's all that mattered to me even if it didn't fully turn out the way I wanted.

ReplyDeleteCool! I'm so not artistic. I can barely ice a normal cake, much less attempt anything that's supposed to resemble something in real life!
