INSECT OBSERVATION + INSECT LEAF CRAFTS (LEARN & LINK)

Do you have an educational post that is about your child and you would like to share? It can be a craft, a lesson, sport etc. that your child learned this week. You do not have to be a homeschooler to LINK up below - happy to have you join us! Then come back every Friday and continue to share your learn and link post! Please do not link up educational reviews - thanks!

We are using Apologia Flying Creatures this year for our science curriculum. We decided to add to the book lesson by doing a nature walk and collecting insects and observing them up close. Viewing all of their body parts up closely under the microscope. Amazingly we caught a fly a big one!

The wings of a fly are membranous with the black veins what neat to see up close along with the rest of their anatomy!

After our observation we collected sticks, leaves and pine needles to make a insect leaf craft.

Materials needed:
Smaller thin sticks
Various different shape leaves
Pine needles
Markers
Construction Paper
Glue

There was really no rule of thumb, This was our 1st time doing this craft. We used different sizes of the same leaf for the ant and pine needles for the legs and antennae. For the Damselfly a stick for the body, the same leaves for the wings and pine needles for the legs and them my boys accented it with a face.

My kids are always intrigued by bugs. The bug zone at our local zoo is one of their favorite places. Those leaf bugs are very cute.
