To celebrate Earth Day Simon and Schuster has generously given be 5 of their Little Green Books to review!
Little Green Books are 100% recyclable, made from recycled paper, and printed with vegetable or soy inks. From books about recycling and replanting to learning about endangered species, there are plenty of options for planting the seeds of earth-friendly living at an early age.
My children & I reviewed 5 Little Green Books. My preschooler & I both learned so much from these books from how plastic & aluminum is made and recycled. As a homeschool mom I found these books to be very educational on the manufacturing making process as well as educating children how precious our planet is and how we need to care for it.
The Adventures of a Plastic Bottle
by Alison Inches
Illustrated by Pete Whitehead
Paperback
Recommended for Ages 4-6
$3.99
Peek into this diary of a plastic bottle as it goes on a journey from the refinery plant, to the manufacturing line, to the store shelf, to a garbage can, and finally to a recycling plant where it emerges into it's new life...as a fleece jacket!
The Adventures of an Aluminum Can
by Alison Inches
Illustrated by Mark Chambers
Paperback
Recommended for Ages 4-6
$3.99
Peek into this diary of an aluminum can as it goes on a journey from inside a bauxite rock under the beaches of Jamaica, to the manufacturing line, to the store shelf, to a garbage can, and finally to a recycling plant where it emerges into its new life...as a baseball bat!
My preschooler & I were mesmorized with the whole manufacturing process. This was a great way for a child to learn how everyday products we use are made and how we can use them more than one time!
I Can Save the Ocean!: The Little Green Monster Cleans Up the Beach
Alison Inches
Illustrated by Viviana Garofoli
Board
Recommended for Ages 4-6
$6.99
Max the Little Green Monster's journey to environmental awareness and learn tips on how they can become little green monsters themselves. The interior pages of this book will be printed on 100% post-consumer waste recycled paper that's FSC-certified.
This book was a great way for me to reinforce to my preschooler on how we should not throw our garbage on the group, but we should throw it away in the proper location and how important it is to keep our oceans clean so that marine life does not suffer the consequences of human error.
My First Garden
by Wendy Lewison
Illustrated by Miki Sakamoto
Hardcover
Recommended for Ages 2-5
$6.99
Come along with a mother and daughter as they dig up soil, plant a flower bed, and water the seeds to make their very first garden. Together they watch the colorful vegetables grow, grow, grow! This book teaches a first concept of colors as well.
My toddler enjoyed naming the colors of the vegetables on each page!
Little Monkey
by Kimberly Ainsworth
Illustrated by Michelle Berg
Paperback
Recommended for Ages 0-3
$9.99
Meet Little Monkey and his friend Little Panda as they spend their day eating their favorite foods and playing together! Little ones will love to cuddle with this supersoft fleece cloth book that's made out of cotton and recycled Polartec® fleece. This book is machine-washable.
Little Panda
by Kimberly Ainsworth
Illustrated by Michelle Berg
Paperback
Recommended for Ages 0-3
$9.99
Meet Little Panda and his friend Little Monkey as they spend their day eating their favorite foods and playing together. Little ones will love to cuddle with this supersoft fleece cloth book that's made out of cotton and recycled Polartec® fleece. This book is machine-washable.
My 11 month baby really enjoys these super soft sweet books. They have such a sweet story. They are great for little ones to touch because of the super soft fabrics.
For additional resources on teaching your child about being green, recycling, respecting our planet and being aware of the endangered species you can go to Parents & Teachers or to The Little Green Blog.

The 5 books I'd like to win and why:
ReplyDeleteLittle Panda, because we already have Little Monkey, so it'd be nice to have the set.
What Do You See?, because my son is just getting to the age where lifting the flap on books is fun.
My First Garden, because I think the fact that it's cut like a basket is cool, and b/c we have a garden ourselves.
The Polar Bear's Home, because my husband loves polar bears
I Can Save the Ocean, because it would be fun for my friend's daughter

The five books I would choose are:
ReplyDelete1. Don't Throw That Away!: A Lift-the-Flap Book about Recycling and Reusing - we always have at least one family craft day at the house and this book looks to have some great crafty ideas that will also teach the children how recycling is useful
2. What Do You See?: A Lift-the-Flap Book About Endangered Animals - simply because my son (who is actually a little older than the age range for this book) asked me the other day about the term "endangered animals" - what does it mean and why
3. Easy to Be Green: Simple Activities You Can Do to Save the Earth - my son loves doing little coloring and fun activities - this is a good way for him to learn about being more eco-friendly while having fun at the same time
4. My First Garden - we've been doing some urban planting this year and this book will add to that experience
5. Little Monkey - because my youngest grandbebe loves her board and fabric books!
