stART -- FINDING HOME (KOALA'S)

Thursday A Mommy's Adventures does a really fun blog carnival every Thursday - read your child a story then accompany it with art!

My kindergartner is learning about Australia and some of the animals from there as well as marsuipals. This week we read Finding Home.

Sandra Markle and Alan Marks team up to chronicle the challenges faced by a mother koala: protecting herself and her joey from a raging bushfire, and finding food and a new home after their home range is destroyed. Based on a true story. Back matter includes facts about koalas, an author's note about the real-life koala that survived two bushfires, and resources for learning more about koalas and their habitat.

Both my boys made Koala's out of paper plates - we even included a pouch!
The left is my 5 year olds, the right is my 3 year olds - I just started writing things out for him & he is tracing them like here the word Koala!

  5. Let the kids know that last week I went for a walk and was suprised to see 2 kangaroos on the football oval (we live only 5 miles from the city!). They had got through a hole in the nature reserve fence and were grazing on the oval - Mama and baby!
So, there we were walking the dog, who just wanted to say hello to them, with 2 roos watching our every step while nibbling the grass (the baby jumped straight into Mama's pouch). Not what you'd expect, even in Australia! I might even try and upload some video of them on my blog .....
