IS THIS A GIRL THING?

My daughter, she is something else! She is a spunky 2 year old with a mind of her own. With 3 brothers she is in a league of her own. At times she drives me crazy but makes me chuckle inside.

Things have to be her way or else............ When she 1st turned 2 if she didn't like the shoes I chose for her for her to wear for that day she would go and get different one's to wear. Now her new thing, a nightmare because the laundry!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Last night I caught her in her bed wearing her bathing suit! She took off her pajama's and diaper and threw them on the floor of her bedroom and put her bathing suit on and then her blanket over her as if she was going to sleep in what she had on! She isn't potty trained so a cloth swim diaper wouldn't hold anything during the night if I didn't catch her.

The potty training isn't going so well either, she hates to be in a dirty diaper, she tells me right away that she needs to be changed but doesn't want another diaper on she wants to wear nothing. I bought her Cinderella underwear thinking since that is her favorite she would want to wear them, nope! Not only that she will not sit on the potty long enough to go and I have found wet diapers on the floor in her bedroom the next day and a wet bed because she takes the diapers off in the middle of the night!

Back to the laundry, she goes through her dresser drawers tries things on throws the clothes on the floor - it looks like she had a fashion show in her room, what's clean and dirty? The laundry!!! She laughs, my husband and I are going to put some type of locks on her dresser drawers because it's driving me crazy!

Is this just a girl thing? She is such a diva! I adore her though, she is my little princess! I wouldn't have her any other way!

  1. HAha she sounds like my 3 year old princess Gigi. I think little girls make you realize that Women really do start young! Your little princess is a cutie! God bless her!

  2. SUCH a girl thing. I have 3 girls and then a boy....finally one who doesn't change 8 times a day or cry because he thinks he looks "stupid" or "ugly" in something.....Hallelujah! I swear it begins at birth, too. Have fun! :)

  3. My daughter, who is four, also has clothes frequently all over the floor of her room. I have had to take the approach that if it's on the floor it's dirty. It's miserable. As for potty training, the best thing for Em was a patient daycare instructor and being around other potty trained kids. So maybe find her a big girl buddy to hang out with and see if that helps.
Lastly, for the taking diapers off. I have been lucky enough to not have this problem, but a friend of mine did. What she finally did was got the zippered footy pajamas and cut the feet off then put them on the kiddo backwards and zipped 'em in. Since the zipper was in back, kiddo couldn't undo it and thus couldn't get to diaper to take it off.

  4. My daughter will try on what seems like all her clothes during quiet time. I had to start telling her not to get into her drawers or closet. Thankfully she listens. I understand the laundry thing! I do two loads of her clothes for every one of my son's.
When she was 2, I would go in to check on her at night and she would be out of her pi's in only her diaper. I got really good about dressing her while she was sleeping.
I am not sure if this is a girl thing, but my girl sounds similar for sure. I have given up suggesting anything for her to wear and let her choose. The only time I override her decision is if the outfit is not weather appropriate.

  5. It totally sounds like we are both raising the same little girls! Chloe will be 2 1/2 in January and our two little ones are very similar about things. Oh, and the attitude! My little girl can give it, but she can't always take it. She is so emotional over the dumbest things. I wish I knew more about 2 year old little girls, but I don't. I hope it gets better too! I am tired of cleaning up her clothes and having to put them away every night. Oh, and the shoes...

  6. Right now, my three year old girl will take off clothes during the day, pjs at night, to put on any dress up dress she can find. have you tried the whole, "you're out of clothes" thing? I dunno, maybe she's too young for that though. I've got a little diva/princess on my hands over here. She's our princess sandwich (older and younger brother)

  7. Funny (and frustrating)! Finally getting my 2.5 y/o boy to try to get dressed and undressed himself and he's only taken his diaper off once during a nap. Thank goodness!

  8. LOL my daughter use to do that with the clothes too so I guess that is a girl thing. As far as potty training, I wish I could help there. My daughter basically potty trained herself. We bought a potty chair and set it in the bathroom, whenever I would go in there she would follow me, take off her diaper or pull up and sit on the potty chair, I guess she just caught on, she was out of diapers before she reached 2 1/2. Just keep working with her she will get it :)

  9. I can so relate. My daughter is very similar. I will tell you with us potty training was extremely difficult but once she got it, she got it!! She also took her diaper off in the crib when we were training- fun fun!

  10. Girls and boys are definitely different. Although my girl was a breeze and it's my son we are having major issues with!!!! Good luck!! Cherish the fun memories! This was cute!

  11. I wish I could say it gets better. My daughter is 8 now and she changes her clothes a dozen times a day.....and she was harder than any of my boys to potty train. So strange!

  12. No not just a girl thing--- the boys change clothes 900 times a day!!! I have to smell the laundry to know if its truly dirty or not!

  13. Totally fun! I have similar things with clothes change going on in my household! And I have a boy!

  14. HAHA! This made me laugh. My 14mo takes all her clothes out of the draws too if I leave her for just 1 minute to go to the bathroom!

  15. i have a 2 and 4 yr old, both girls, and this sounds like them as well with some things. Our 4 yr old has been potty training since Jan 2011 and it took 9 months to get her to be able to wear underwear outside of the house and stay dry. luckily when she started pre-school they were ok with her wearing a pull up for the two hours and she quickly wanted panties. We've been lucky in never having an accident OUTSIDE of the home but she has ups and downs IN the home so eventually it will click with your daughter.

Our two year old is the same way with diapers and stuff though. She doesn't like poo diapers especially and will tell me AS she's going but something freaks her out about the potty and she would rather me just change her immediately afterward so we're not pushing her to make sure the potty doesn't become a huge negative in her eyes.

My 4 yr old is extremely girly and loves make up, nail polish, headbands, earrings, anything she can use for an accessory LOL

    Girls are fun :)

  16. We had a rule, one outfit a day unless its dress up clothes. My daughter threw all her clothes out of her dresser one time at 3, I stood there and made her pick up and put back every single thing (of course I had to do it again later when she wasn't looking to make it neat). After that she stopped. For the diaper thing, she is ready to be potty trained. If she wets her bed, after removing her diaper...make her wash the sheets, clean the bed..wipe up the mess. Yes you will need to help her but once she has to stand at the washing machine one or two times for everything to wash and then do all the work involved...she will stop. Do not allow children to make more work for you..make them do the work of their messes

  17. My daughter actually got more strong-willed as she got older. Maybe it's just your daughter - she's a diva and she knows it! :)

  18. Thanks for the giggle! This reminds me of my daughter who is 3 1/2. She loves to change clothes and at one point, I did not think the girl would ever be potty-trained. It finally happened right when she turned 3 - when she decided she was ready, she did it, but not a moment before!

  19. My daughter just likes to empty drawers no matter what's in them. I hope she doesn't do this next year!

  20. Love it! I've followed your blog for a long time and you've really helped me recently. I'm a new follower (officially)! Thank you!

  21. I had 3 boys, then a girl and now another boy. My girl is 3 yo now and you just wrote my story!!! Oh my! The clothes the clothes! They are everywhere. And when she got into princess dresses I would have to bribe her to quit wearing it so I could wash it.
And the potty training, it took a year, and finally last Christmas, I had given up and my MIL was here for about 10 days and she finally got her far enough along that we finished up in a couple of months. I thought girls were supposed to be easier than boys?
3 has become so difficult for me though. She is so different than my boys were and I struggle alot with her. But everyone tells me once we get past 3 it will get better. I hope so, the diva is a little too much sometimes. =)
But she is so so precious to her Daddy and me, and melts our hearts even in the midst of a diva moment. And I love the dresses and clothes. I guess I can put up with all of it just to get a night of painting fingers and "toetails" with her. Daughters are something else.
