Until recently I didn't enjoy cooking because I never thought I was very good at it but with a large family I am finding myself cooking more from scratch. Due to time restraints I try to find easy and delicious meals and or deserts to prepare for my family.
My grocery store sells cheaper spices, but you know that saying you get what you pay for? The quality definitely isn't there unless you are using quality spices from McCormick!
I was sent several wonderful spices from McCormick to bake with.
My family made Easier Than Apple Pie. It was a team effort! my husband made the dough from scratch (we strayed a bit from the actual recipe). My husband enjoys baking so he wanted to make the crust from scratch verses store bought pastry crust.
INGREDIENTS
1 refrigerated pie crust (from 15-ounce package)
1 egg white, lightly beaten
3/4 cup sugar
2 tablespoons cornstarch
2 teaspoons McCormick® Cinnamon, Ground
4 cups thinly sliced peeled apples (about 4 medium)
1 teaspoon sugar
1 egg white, lightly beaten
3/4 cup sugar
2 tablespoons cornstarch
2 teaspoons McCormick® Cinnamon, Ground
4 cups thinly sliced peeled apples (about 4 medium)
1 teaspoon sugar
DIRECTIONS
1. Preheat oven to 425°F. Prepare crust as directed on package. Place on foil-lined 12-inch pizza pan. If necessary, press out any folds or creases. Brush crust with about 1/2 of the beaten egg white.
2. Mix 3/4 cup sugar, cornstarch and cinnamon in medium bowl. We decided to add nutmeg into our dry ingedients as well. Toss with apples. Spoon into center of crust, spreading to within 2 inches of edges. Fold 2-inch edge of crust up over apples, pleating or folding crust as needed. Brush crust with remaining egg white; sprinkle with 1 teaspoon sugar.
3. Bake 20 minutes or until apples are tender. Cool slightly before serving.
He even had our 3 and 4 year old involved by helping him roll out the dough.
I sliced the apples and added the dry ingredients then tossed them in with the apples.
Pour the apples with the cinnamon mixture over the dough and them crimp the dough over the edges and bake for 20 minutes!
Easy as pie!
