Here we go again, breastfeeding in the spotlight again. Just because they have a military uniform on they can't nurse their babies in them? Do people normally change their clothes to eat? Then why should they have to change out of their uniform to feed their babies?
Here is part of the Yahoo post:
At a time when breastfeeding in public is already controversial, pictures of two military moms doing so while wearing their uniforms is sparking outrage.
The photo is part of a local breastfeeding awareness campaign by Mom2Mom of Fairchild Air Force Base, a support group launched in January by Crystal Scott, a military spouse and mother of three. Among the intimate close-ups of smiling young mothers cuddling their adorable babies, the images of the two airmen stand out.
"People are comparing breastfeeding in uniform to urinating and defecating in uniform. They're comparing it to the woman who posed in "Playboy" in uniform [in 2007]" Scott told Yahoo! Shine in an interview. "We never expected it to be like this."
"I'm an X-ray tech and I breastfeed in my uniform all the time," Scott says. "Granted they're scrubs. But people do it all the time in their uniforms. If you have a hungry baby, why would you take the time to change completely?"
Now I will admit, I do cover up when I nurse my baby in public, the one mom in my opinion is showing a bit much for me - I am a very modest person and do not like for anyone to see anything except for my husband.
As a breastfeeding mom it angers me that people would compare breastfeeding in a military uniform to urinating and defecating in uniform. Why does breastfeeding have to be so controversial, it's a choice!

Its controversial because the certain people feels the world id ruled by men and since breast feeding is something they cannot do then they will object. :) Honestly I do know know why it is so offensive but there are more important issues that could take the frontline than a woman doing something that comes natural.

If it's ok to give a baby a bottle or sippy cup or whatever, it's ok to breastfeed. There is no difference. Anyone who sees a difference is sexualizing it. It's not sex, it's food.
ReplyDeleteThat is absolutely ridiculous. They have every right and should not be allowed to do this judgement free. It's the world we live in.
ReplyDeleteIt's baffling to me. Your baby is hungry so you feed it. As long as you're being discreet, it shouldn't matter. There's a reason why we produce milk in our breasts. It's so that no babies will ever go hungry no matter what their mother's financial circumstances are. I think it's the most natural thing in the world. This is not a problem in other countries.
ReplyDeletePeople should be allowed to do what the want. They're feeding their children for heaven's sake. Some people just look for things to complain about - It's ridiculous.
ReplyDeleteI think they are military and know they have rules about being in uniform. Should they be allowed to nurse? Yes, but they won't nurse while on duty or why is their a need to nurse in uniform. They signed up for this service and know they are not like any other mom. There is a pride and commitment in that uniform that represents so much more that a job. That is why it is a sensitive subject. It is nothing like the shot in playboy, but I don't see why if they are in uniform they can't use a coverup. I used a coverup for all nursing in public not so much for myself but to make sure I did not offended anyone. Did it stop me from nursing, no, I was discreet. I see no problem with them being discreet as well. As long as I don't see any boob, I don't see a problem with it. The way the blond chick is doing it is a little bit of pushing it. If she has to nurse both at one time, head to a room. I nursed like the second lady, were you are not sure if they are nursing or holding your child. I took pride in nursing my child discreetly.
ReplyDeleteI agree breastfeeding is a choice and doesn't have to be such a controversy. People should really wake up there is so much more to worry about in the world than what clothes a Mama is wearing when she feeds her baby. Right?
ReplyDeleteI can't believe that breastfeeding in public is still a problem!
ReplyDeleteI breastfed all six of my children, but I did cover up. I wasn't about to have my breast out for all to see. I am proud that I was a breastfeeding mother, and advocate the practice, but I don't advocate having the boob out in public. There are some people that really get their jollies from it. I say breastfeed, in public, in uniform, whatever, but make it decent.

I cannot nurse without covering up, it makes me more comfortable. it doesn't bother me that she's in uniform, but service men and women have to adhere to different standards and regulations. Maybe if they had covered themselves up a little more there wouldn't have beensuch an uproar.
ReplyDeleteURGH! I don't know why this subject is still making headlines when it seems like their are more urgent matters out there than caring for people's boobies! Geeze!
