This is a schoolhouse from 1935. It has been moved to an area with older homes, etc. for the public to learn and enjoy.
This schoolhouse was constructed in 1935 and opened in 1936. With ONE teacher who taught 6 different grades - 13 children total. It was an elementary school until 1965 when it closed.
Walking in you could smell the oldness of the building. Inside even the  hardwood flooring was original.
My boys are not used to sitting in desks like this because we homeschool at a big table!
My have desks changed over the years!

What a beautifully restored school house!
ReplyDeleteThat is so cool! I love it! I have a fascination with old buildings and history! I would love to visit this place!
ReplyDeleteThat is so neat!
ReplyDeleteI always loved taking tours of old school houses. It's amazing how one teacher was able to divide her duties between 6 grades, even though there were only a handful of children. I have a hard enough time doing homework with my 2!
ReplyDeleteWhat a neat place to visit!
ReplyDeleteI love old-fashioned desks like that. I'll bet the kids got a real kick out of it all!
ReplyDeleteMy grandmother went to a one room school house when she was growing up on Omaha, Nebraska back in the 20s. She was a little devil back then.

ReplyDeleteI love old school houses. I see in the comments that your grandma went to one in Omaha. That's where I live.

I bet back then no one was breathing down that teacher's back about curriculum, common core, and best teaching strategies. They just left her alone to do what she was trained to do.

ReplyDeleteI love those old school houses! I took my kids to one when I was teaching and they pretended to be "old fashioned" kids for the day. So fun!
ReplyDeleteThis is awesome. I can actually remember using a desk like the one with green legs. I went to a rural gradeschool in the middle of Illinois for 4th and 5th grade and they had desk like that, where the top opened.

ReplyDeletethis is so neat! i love old desks like this and think they look so beautiful! the chair attached to the desk is genius IMO because then you don't have people leaning back in chairs and the constant in and out back and forth a chair can make on the floor

beautiful - love that it has been restored so nicely. the history to this building must be amazing - the stories it could tell. It's hard to believe my mother was schooled in a place like this - just one teacher for all ages. amazing.
