I love baking soda, I use it for so many things in our home. Not only is it inexpensive but it can be used for practically everything! It works and it's super cheap!
The uses are endless..................
Use in baking: cookies, cakes, muffins, pancakes and more!
I sprinkle some on an old toothbrush and clean my shower tile grout and tile floors with it. (makes a great abrasive cleaner)
Brush your teeth with it.
Living in Florida we have a lot of sea shells, when we bring them home they often smell so I give my boys old toothbrushes and a bit of baking soda and have them clean the shells before we display them.

Place some on your hand and pat your armpits and use as an deodorant.
Add some to a little bowl or bottle and place in refrigerator for deodorizer.
Use along with white vinegar to clean your toilets, sinks and bathtubs, they will sparkle like they are brand new!
Use in recipe for homemade Play-Doh. Here is my recipe for peppermint Play-Doh.

Canker sores? make a paste with water and baking soda and place on your canker sore, it will relieve the pain and speed up the healing process.

Sprinkle some in your shoes instead of baby powder, prevents sweating and odor.
Remove natural oils from combs and hairbrushes by cleaning them in a small amount of baking soda and water.
Sprinkle on your carpet let sit for a few minutes then vacuum up, this will eliminate any odors.
Add 1/4 cup of baking soda to water and dampen rag with the mixture and clean toys.
Use as a drain cleaner and drizzle in your kitchen sink, let sit for about 1/2 hour and then run hot water for a few minutes and then your garbage disposal, this will eliminate odors in your garbage disposal.
Another fun Science experiment is adding baking soda and vinegar in an water bottle with a balloon on top and as the chemicals unite watch the balloon blow off the bottle.
When I had a cat I used to mix the cat litter and about 1/2 cup of baking soda to her cat box to eliminate the odors.
Use on your stove burners and inside your oven as an abrasive to scrub off any burnt food.
Dampen rag and clean your microwave, not only will it clean but it will neutralize odors.
Make a paste to clean silverware using with 3 parts baking soda to 1 part water.
What do you use baking soda for?

ReplyDeleteSo many great uses!! I didn't know you could use it on canker sores, this remedy sounds way painless compared with mine: salt (which burns it).
ReplyDeleteWow! I wouldn't of thought of using baking soda to a volcano. Those are great ideas!

ReplyDeleteI use baking soda on my teeth some times :) I did try the balloon thing before my kids love it!!
ReplyDeleteWe use baking soda for science experiments all the time at my house!
ReplyDeleteI love baking soda and all its uses! Don't forget to add a bit of vinegar to the rinse cycle to restore the pH of cloth diapers if you use a scoop of baking soda in the wash! :)
ReplyDeleteI use baking soda for a LOT of things. A lot of what you listed, but also for cleaning the dishwasher! I run an empty cycle with it sprinkled in the bottom. It helps clear up hardwater build up. And then run an extra load with vinegar. Removes the horrid smell dishwashers get too.
ReplyDeleteI also use it for Diaper rash. When my daughter gets a really bad diaper rash, I give her a warm bath with Baking soda sprinkled in it. It heals it up faster than anything else I've ever tried. I usually give her 1-3 of these baths a day depending on how bad it is. The rash usually clears up within a day or two.
I also take baking soda baths when I'm having dry skin issues, or itchy skin. It works amazing as a bath soak and I get out and my skin feels simply amazing.
What fun ideas! I love the peppermint play-doh :)
