Let it snow! (Day 1)

Let it snow - Day 1

I decided to do a theme unit study this week since it has been really cold where we live - it hardly ever gets this cold here!

Books we read:
The big Snowball
A Really Good Snowman
Snow Friends

Snowman math
My preschooler counted the snowmen - see how to make this thrifty math game
I put it up on our dry erase board, then JJ counted the snowmen & matched the magnetic numbers to it.

Then the boys played roll a snowman, I found this idea on Make Learning Fun.
Very easy to make, I made 3 different size circles out of felt, then out of felt I made eyes, scarf, mittens, etc. (I used real buttons for the buttons). I modified our game a bit adding a carrot nose & mittens.

JJ's completed snowman

Jumping Bean played too but he didn't use the dice, he just made him.

Then I created indoor snow - this was a crazy idea - I don't know what I was thinking (you will see what I mean). With our shredder I did a little shredding (we shredd alot, mail with our name on it, etc.) Then in a blow up pool I dumped a garbage bag full of the shredding . The boys got in it & played.

They had snowball fights

This is why I said I didn't know what I was thinking! I walked out of the room for a moment & came back to this! Why didn't I put a tarp or something down? This took me forever to clean up, it wasn't easy to vaccum up. So if you do this, think about it. Let's just say the boys had a great time but we will not be doing this again + they busted the blow up pool so that's trash! At least they had a good time!

For dinner I made them snowmen carrots w/ mango arms & hat.

Check back later to see Day 2 of our let it snow adventures!

  3. yes, & to think they wouldn't make a messy - what was I thinking? I told my husband what I was going to do & he didn't say a word then after the fact he asked why I didn't use a tarp or something - thanks - why didn't he mentioned it to me 1st? :)

  4. LOL on the inside snow, but the boys clearly had lots of fun with it. Making Learning Fun is one of our favorite sites too.

  5. Ok...while it's not funny from a mommy's clean-up perspective...that is HILARIOUS!! :) I made the same mistake a few weeks ago with quilt batting and it ended up clogging our vacuum cleaner to boot! :)

Thanks for joining up with Preschool Corner!

  7. Yes I can see that might be hard to clean up, but it really looks like fun! I am also happy to learn I am not the only one whose children have popped a blow up pool.
