Butterflies

This week we learned about butterflies, from their anatomy, their life cycle & more having lots of fun along the way!

I printed off these Butterfly Life Cycle Cards glued them to cardboard for sturdniess & had JJ put the pictures in order then sound out each word & match it to the picture of the life cycle.

Then he drew the life cycle of the butterfly

Then I printed off Letter Tile Sheets that go with the Very Hungry Caterpillar. I covered the word, had him sound it out, spell it them remove the paper to see if it was correct.

Handprint butterflies (the left is my preschooler's)

Then I printed off Roll A Hungry Caterpillar
He didn't even realize that as he played he learned the butterfly's anatomy! The instruction sheet has all the body parts & I asked him the name of each part as he rolled the dice & put the butterfly together.

Then a few weeks back we visited a Butterfly park
JJ getting butterfly kisses, the butterfly is crawling on his arm
Here are a few pics of some of the beautiful butterflies we saw

  11. Looks like a great week. We're going to do butterflies next week. I had thought about going to our local butterfly place too. But my mom and brother are coming to town so we decided we would head up to Disney for a couple days and go to EPCOT's Flower and Garden. I thought Sprout could check out the butterflies there.

  13. Awww- I just adore butterflies! A couple of years ago, we had raised some Painted Ladies from one of those kits (VERY fun experience), and decided to let them fly around in the house before we let them go. My oldest daughter, to this day, LOVES to let everyone know that during this free for all, I accidentally sat on one of the butterflies. (Don't worry- it lived!)

Ahh, the things our children remember...
