BAREFOOT BOOKS REVIEW & GIVEAWAY (winner chooses title)

A special gift for that special boy or girl........

Barefoot Books Books began with two mothers who wanted their children to have books that would feed the imagination, while instilling a respect for diversity and a love of the planet. Today, they are a world-wide community of writers, artists, storytellers, musicians, and others who are committed to providing timeless stories and captivating art that can help children become happy, engaged members of a global society.

I had the opportunity to review 3 books by Barefoot Books:

This airborne adventure takes readers ballooning over lands near and far, all the way to the stars. The charming singalong song on the accompanying CD keeps spirits high, while the rhyming and playful text introduces all sorts of settings and vocabulary-building words. Book with CD edition includes song sung by Susan Reed. Ages 3 to 7 years
Written By: Susan Reed, Illustrated By: Rachel Oldfield
Hardcover w Music CD ($16.99)

My Thoughts:
Up, Up, Up! was my 3 year olds favorite book! The rhyming and colorful whimsical pictures are a delight for anyone! The illustrations go perfect with the story / song of the book, how the artisit used different cultures in his illustrations I found charming. I also like the how the book is accompanied with a CD that has the lyrics to the book. The child can read the book as they sing along to the CD.

Climb to the top of Lonesome Mountain to meet a very special boy named Rink — every full moon, he grows flowers all over his body. This heartwarming story celebrates difference and friendship, as Rink meets a girl with her own secret, and they discover ways to help each other.

Ages 4 to 10 years
Written By: Jen Wojtowicz, Illustrated By: Steve Adams
Hardcover ($16.99)

My Thoughts:
I can see why my 5 year old liked this book so much! The Boy Who Grew Flowers teaches children values about loving others even though we are all different in our own special ways. Not to look at others on the outside my on the inside. The story is a great way for readers to learn how to open up their hearts and to be giving and not to care what others think - to do the right thing - to love! I think the story is a wonderful story - what a great way to reinforce values / morals to our children!

Cultivate a reverence for life's gifts and the varied ways of receiving them. This elegant collection of prayers and blessings is selected from a wide range of countries, cultures and world religions.
Ages 5 and up
Compiled By: Sabrina Dearborn, Illustrated By: Olwyn Whelan
Hardcover ($18.99)

My Thoughts:
The illustrations of The Barefoot Book of Blessings are quite remarkable. There are several wonderful Christian blessings this book offers that are quite beautiful but as a Christian family that does not celebrate halloween I had a difficult time with a halloween blessing in this book and more so with it on the back of a Christmas blessing. Along with Christian blessings there are other several beautiful blessings in the book that are quite beautiful not using specific religions.

Buy It:
Any of the above books can be purchased directly from Barefoot Books. 13. These are all wonderful titles, especially The Boy Who Grew Flowers. Thanks for sharing :}. You might also enjoy a really great musical picture book for ages 4 to 10 called, Jazz Fly 2 by Matthew Gollub, who has written the story and performs on an audio cd for the book, which includes Spanish phrases that are easy to learn for any child. My daughter just loves it and plays the cd over and over. I like the fact that she is learning a new language in such a creative way.
