FIVE SUMMER GETAWAYS EVERY KID SHOULD EXPERIENCE!

Summer is quickly approaching,  school's are almost out, those that homeschool take a summer break or homeschool lightly like myself, and families are getting reading to take nice summer vacations. Summer as always my favorite time of the year as a child as the school year ended I looked forward to our family vacations my parents worked so hard to plan!

Here are five summer getaways every kid should experience:

1) My favorite beach ever -- Sanibel Island
I remember my parents taking me there as a child, those are some of the best memories I have. The best memory I have of this vacation is my cousin and I collected the sandpipers that rolled up along the ocean shore. The sand is as fine as sugar, the shells are beautiful and the ocean is crystal clear. There is so much to do from visiting The Point Ybel Lighthouse to to shell collecting. This island has so much to offer for all ages.

2) Washington D.C.
I have been there as a child on a school field trip and than with family. There is so much to see and do. The museums are fantastic! This city has over 50  museums, and the most of them are free!  My favorite museums are located in the National Mall, these are:
National Museum of American History
Smithsonian American Art Museum
National Museum of the American Indian
National Museum of Natural History
National Air and Space Museum
The Smithsonian Institution

3) Sea World
As a child and now as an adult Sea World is one of my favorite Florida tourist areas. This park as so much to offer all ages! From dolphin shows to stingray feedings. Until last year we had season passes but now with the new baby we are holding off until he's a bit older and than we will be purchasing our passes again. For my son's 5th birthday we did the behind the scene tour and that was awesome - what a great experience our family shared. As we got to pet sharks, penguins and view polar bear up close!

Here is another city that has so much to offer. There is so much to so and do. From eating the best hot dogs which are located at nearly every corner in Time Square to taking the fairy to The Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. Taking a carriage ride in Central Park was one of my favorite experiences in New York City. The Brooklyn Children's Museum is another great museum to visit. The visitors can see daily living in the city  - activities include kids can make a pizza in the pizza parlor, run the cash register and serve the pizza!

5) Wellesley Island
Wellesley Island State Park with 2600 acres. The island includes a marina with boat rentals, four boat launch sites, a swimming beach and picnic area. My husband has been there as a child where is family would go up for a week at a time and rent a log cabin. Not only did he enjoy the indoor activities at the Rec Barn but they have several activities scheduled for children outdoors as well (games such as capture the flag, kickball and softball).

  1. I love the site. As a former New Yorker I would also suggest a ride on the subway as another one of those truly New York experiences to share with your family. However, make sure you know the route so you don't stick out like a sore thumb or get lost!
