The shells REALLY stunk, so I gave the boys toothbrushes and baking soda and had them clean them
Here are the shells we collected, even part of a crab shell!
My oldest traced some of the shells, drew some free hand and wrote all the names of them in our sea life binder, then we took some of the shells and make impressions of them in Play-Doh, making our own shells!
We are now storing our shells in our Gulf of Mexico sea life jar:
We took a big pickle jar, cleaned it out and for the lid my son stamped them with a ink stamper, then colored the inside of the shells, I used clear packing tape to laminate the circle shell design he made, cut it out and glued it to the lid.
I painted Gulf of Mexico sea life on the jar
So now every month when we go back we can add to our jar and enjoy looking at it when we are not at the beach and recalling our special memories!
I need to get out the shells I brought back from the ocean again to let the kids play with them.

ReplyDeleteWhat wonderful ideas! I'm relatively new to homeschooling and love creative ways of teaching children. So glad I found your blog.

ReplyDeleteI like the jar! Did the baking soda help the smell? We might give it a try on ours.
