FORMING SURFACE CURRENTS IN OUR KITCHEN - SCIENCE EXPERIMENT

We have started our Science curriculum Apologia's Swimming Creatures on the 5th Day. We love it! This week we learned about currents and tides. Here is the experiment we did:

The object was to get the cheerios to go in the curricular motion as a current does.

Materials needed:
2 hair dryers or small fans
water
casserole type dish
cheerios
Turn the hair dryers on low aim them above the water while the other person hold the hair dryer / fan along one side of the long side of the casserole dish towards your end. The Cheerios will start to flow in a circle forming a mini gyre which as produced by winds on the earth that blow in opposite directions!
