Apologia Swim Creatures Lesson 5 (Primeval Reptiles)
When I first turned to this lesson I have to admit I thought this lesson was going to be a bore but I was wrong. My son and I really enjoyed learning about these old sea creatures - the 1st fossils found by a 13 year old child in 1810!
We were thankful to be able to go to the Orlando Science Museum on vacation and see fossil replica's of the Plesiosaurs and Pliosaurs
We also did an up close experiment, according to our curriculum a Pliosaurs had head approximately 9 X 3, so we my son measured and drew out the dimensions on our back patio using chalk. Then he drew the 2 long rows of teeth (each tooth about the size of a banana). My son and I are both visual learners - this was a perfect way to get an idea of how big these creatures really were! HUGE!
This looks like so much fun. We are going to the aquarium today so this looks like a great lesson to do after with my daughter:)
ReplyDeleteWe are visual learners too. One thing we did when we were working on dinosaurs was draw a straight line about 75 feet I think it was to see how tall they were. We drew different lines at different feet. Your son did a great job on his dinosaur drawing.
ReplyDeleteThat is a really big head! I like the visual.
ReplyDeleteThat looks like so much fun! I plan to use Apologia Science with my kiddos next year. Can't wait!
ReplyDeleteSigh, I missed this amongst my emails and didn't comment last week. I'm working on that.
ReplyDeleteI agree, that visual is great for seeing how big that is relatively.
