HOW TO CREATE & ORGANIZE AN DRESS UP AREA FOR LITTLE GIRLS

My daughter was blessed to receive a bunch of dress up clothes from my friends daughter who outgrew them. From princess dresses, dress up shoes, gowns and tutu tutu's Not really know how to store them I left them in the garbage bag  in the corner of her room which is how they were given to us in. As she would play with them I would find the dress up clothes thrown on her bedroom floor along with the dress up shoes, boas, etc. This wasn't working! With no room in her closet or anywhere else to hang these clothes up, how can I make her a special dress up area?

I didn't want to just toss them in a plastic container or shove the dress up clothes in a drawer. I wanted to make it so that my four year old daughter could see the clothes easily and was able to put them back neatly.  I purchased a clothing rack on Amazon for less than $20.00 and created her a dress up spot in her room. I lowered the rack to her size so that she is able to reach the top bar to take the hangers on and off. I taught her how to put the clothes on and off the hangers so that she is the one who has to put all the clothes back when she is done.

I purchased a few plastic shoe boxes with lids for her to store her boas, scarfs and gloves. Then I tool a plastic box and placed all her dress up shoes, belts and wands in and then store them all underneath the dress up rack. Then on each end of the rack I hung her purses.

Now she has her own dress up area, my little fashion diva!

  1. what a neat idea! My daughter hasn't gotten into dress up yet, but when she does I am not sure where we'll find the space for a dress up area. But if we do find space, I definitely will use this!

  12. I have been working on trying to figure out how to set up dress up clothes for our little ones-3 boys and a girl. I imagine they will share all outfits as they do not care at this age. Thanks for the great information and cute pictures. Thank you for sharing on Artsy Play Wednesday. I pinned it (http://pinterest.com/pin/94575660897827848/)
