I thank you all for your kind words from my previous posts regarding our new blessing. We came home from the hospital Thursday. Having a tough time recovering from my c-section, it's my 4th. I typically do not like taking pills but unforunately I have been taking the pain pills the hospital prescribed. It has helped cut the pain.
I ask for prayers for Baby Squeekers. My husband took him for his newborn appointment yesterday morning and they said he had a rating of 19 out of 20 for his billirubin - he has jaundice. So they had the Billirubin lights delievered to our home yesterday - he has been on it since. I have to nurse him every 2 hours - they also want me to bottle feed him which I refuse to do. I have increased my water intake and have prayed that I my milk supply increases. The more fluids he gets it will flush out the old blood cells. So he goes back again this morning, if it hasn't gone down he may have to be hostpitalized. My other 3 children has jaundice too when they were born but this frightens me that he may have to be hospitalized, my other children didn't need the Billirubin lights neither.
His weight went from 6.6 lbs. to 5.14 lbs - he is SO tiny - the tiniest of all my children when they were born. Please pray that God heals my little baby. That he will not need to be hostpitalized that the lights worked yesterday/last night. I really appreciate your prayers. God is faithful!
Here is my little angel on his Billirubin lights - we say we have a glowing baby! Needless to say he isn't crazy about it!
Lifting up prayers for your little one.
ReplyDeleteI'll be praying. Thats very scary
ReplyDeleteWhat a precious little Christmas gift! My kids had jaundice too...but not to the point of requiring the lights or hospitalization. As a nurse and mom, I understand both sides of the supplementation issue...just wondering, is it the bottle you're against or the formula? Just asking, b/c u can supplement the baby without giving a bottle. I did this with my last and it worked well. I don't want to give you a bunch of unsolicited advice, but if you have any questions, feel free to email me. (I was a labor & delivery nurse for a while!) Prayers for your family :)
ReplyDeleteMy son's level reached 18 - he was in the light box and blanket too for a couple days. Praying your little peanut gets better quickly!
ReplyDeleteMy daughter's levels reached 19 and she was on the light bed for three days. I did have to supplement with a bottle, but my milk consistently takes 6 days to come in, so it seems to be par for the course for me. Have you tried a supplemental nursing system? I wasn't introduced to one until my second--it provides the extra fluids needed while also providing the stimulation mom needs. We were able to keep him off the bottle with it. Praying he heals soon!
ReplyDeleteBoth of my boys had jaundice bad enough to require lights...one was in one like your baby at home, the other was already in the NICU and they had him on all sorts of lights.
ReplyDeleteWhen I found out my oldest had jaundice I cried and cried thinking it was somehow my fault, but it worked out ok, though obnoxious and a little stressful at the time.
It's hard watching such a little being be sick at all, but it's miraculous that something that used to regularly kill babies is treated so easily (relatively speaking) now.
I saw your later post and that his levels dropped some...here's hoping they drop more! Having a baby in the hospital is no fun!
Praying for your little man! Has the doctor suggested Vitamin D drops? I know that is what is in the formula that they say helps bring the billirubin levels down.
ReplyDeletePraying for your little one and that your milk comes in quickly. My milk took longer to come in with my last and it was pretty hard on both of us.
ReplyDeleteawe, my little guy was on the bili blanket for almost a week... praying his levels drop quickly and he gains weight soon! he is precious though!
