PRAISE REPORT ABOUT THE NEW BABY!

Thank you for your prayers, God is faithful but I have a praise report!

My husband just called me from the doctor's, Squeekers Billirubin went from 19 to 17 from yesterday. The doctor said he is headed in the right direction and the right range for his weight (5.15 lbs). He does have another doctors appointment tomorrow to have his levels checked again, praying that they continue to drop.

Also, I have received some e-mails regarding my refusal to supplement, I didn't mean to open a can of worms. I am very passionate about breastfeeding, it's a personal conviction. With my 1st son I breastfed & supplemented. I enjoy the blessing of nursing, to hold the baby close, seeing their sweet little faces look up at their mama, it's SO special! Please do not take offense to my decision not to supplement - it's my personal choice.

I will keep you all posted on the jaundice situation!

  1. I'm glad he is getting better! YAY for you not supplementing!! Seriously, I just don't see how pumping your precious baby with crapola formula would help the jaundice. Formula is just NOT breastmilk!! I'm sorry to hear you received negative emails about not giving formula to your baby. I wish more people understood what formula actually is and that it is not the best choice for any baby.

  2. What a little sweetie!! Don't apologize for your beliefs with breastfeeding, it's your choice and yours only. I did both with all my kids and I got rude remarks from both sides!! :S I hope you are able to bring him home soon!

  7. What a beautiful little sweetie! Do not let anyone tell you how to raise your baby. I agree, it is a personal choice and one that no one else has the right to even comment on. You do what is right for you! Nursing is a blessing from the Lord. Praying for his levels to keep dropping!

Following you from the Saturday stalk. Followed all your media sources :) Return follow if you can :) I have a Christian Giveaway going through tomorrow!

  8. I'm so proud of you for standing your ground. I am also passionate about nursing, and I would have been upset if someone insisted that I had to supplement, when the BEST thing for the baby is mama's milk! It will come... praying for you!

  10. Oh Nicole ... your little one is just so precious! Congratulations. I am sorry to hear that people have been giving you a hard time on your decision to solely breastfeed. You are the mommy and you know what is best for your sweet child. Praying that your treasure child recovers soon from jaundice. Much love to you.

  11. I am a die hard breastfeeder as well. Here in NY, the hospitals do not send you home with Bili Lights...bummer! (I have issues with jaundice with my babies and this option would be SO wonderful!!!) So, when my son was born in June, he struggled with jaundice for 5 days in the hospital. When we finally went home, I was told that if his jaundice went up above the "safe" level that he would be re-admitted to children's hospital. We came horribly close many times and had to go get his heel pricked every morning for two weeks following his discharge from the hospital. When he got sooo close to being admitted, I prayed and asked the Lord for wisdom. I didn't want to go the formula route but whatever would keep us out of the hospital I was willing to do. So, he went on formula for only 4 days while I pumped in the mean time. His levels dropped amazingly FAST and as soon as those four days were done, he was back to nursing like a champ!!! I am not telling you what to do, only that for me to do formula was HUGE (I cried buckets) and it did help and worked well for us. He is doing well now but next time if the need arises, I will do it again. Hope you little guy continues to do well! :)

  12. Congratulations!! He is beautiful!! My 3 rd child was jaundiced and had to be hospitalized for it. It was heart wrenching to watch them poke her foot every 6 hrs to check the bili, so when the 4th came around I did whatever to keep my baby out of that situation. Everybody has a different reason for doing what they do, and nobody can judge except for the one and only, God. So, you do what is best for your baby and don't feel guilty for that. Praying for quick healing for the little squeakers and have a Merry CHRISTmas.
    God Bless,
    Shelley

  13. Have you tried taking Fenugreek to increase milk supply? It's a natural herb and I have know many breastfeeding mothers who have had great success with it! It was also recommended to me by my doula.

  14. Congratulations! He is gorgeous!
I can't understand why people would email you about your decision to breastfeed exclusively. Why are other people always so worried about whether or not someone else is breastfeeding. Personally, I am for breastfeeding, (and think every mom should give it a shot, and if they want to bottle feed, use breast milk in the bottle, but I respect that other people do not agree) but even the doctors and nurses were against it in my case. (they even gave my daughter a bottle without my knowledge!!) Unfortunately, I was not able to breastfeed exclusively, so I did have to supplement. But I did not use a bottle, I used a lactation aid, so that I was still breastfeeding, and she was still getting enough.(I had no choice, I could not produce enough, even with the help of a medication, because of previous surgery on my breasts (not implants). Ten years later, I had my son, and was not able to breastfeed when he was born as he was 6 weeks early and was fed from a tube. I could not pump enough for him, but I did what I could. Once he was able to latch, I did breastfeed, but had to supplement. People were so negative about me supplementing. Like I had a choice. my only choice was supplement so he doesn't starve, or don't supplement and the baby will starve. I once snapped at a woman that commented to me that if I really loved my baby I would strictly breastfeed! I was supplementing because I loved my baby and didn't want her to starve, since I couldn't produce enough milk because I lost milk ducts when I had lumps removed from both my breasts as a teen!!
It frustrates me to no end that women will be so critical of other women that do not choose to feed their babies the same way they do!! Sorry to ramble.
Congrats again on the beautiful addition to your family!

  15. Wow, I can't believe you're getting emails like that. Sounds like your little one is doing great. Keep up the good work mama!

  16. He's gorgeous - and not that you need it, but I'm supporting your decision to do what you feel is right for your baby. I took my doc's advice with my 1st and seupplemented, and hated myself for it. With my 2nd I did not, and felt much better. Both had jaundice and both got better in the exact same amount of time.

    All the best!

  17. Congrats, he is so cute! My son was also on the Belli-blanket. We joked and said he looked like a glow worm or a 1950's science experiment. You are making the right decision for you and your family. Keep your chin up. I use the Mother's Milk tea and it helps with my milk. I use it when I feel like I need a boost.
