Part 2 - how to make a volcano --- you can see part one of how to build a volcano (using yeast + hydrogen peroxide here)
Materials needed for this volcano:
plastic clear bottom
glue
paint brush
play sand
vinegar
food coloring
baking soda
funnel
tissue
Coat the outside of the bottle with glue so that the sand will adhere to the bottle.
Then form a volcano form around the bottle
Here's what it looked like when done coated with the sand.
Take a funnel and pour in about a cup of vinegar with food coloring mixed in.
We have been doing these Science homeschool classes at a Children's Museum and they put the baking soda in tissue paper and wrapped like a little packet, so have your child put that in the bottle.
Then once the tissue paper disintegrates the volcano will start to spew lava!

ReplyDeleteI remember making a volcano as a kid, but I made one that was quite large. Now seeing your smaller volcano, I really want to make one with my stepdaughters one of these days. I think it would be a lot of fun!

ReplyDeleteoh that looks like so much fun! I remember making volcanos in our driveway as a kid! We'd gather up all the dirt (we lived on a farm) form a hole in the middle and add the vinegar and baking soda! So much fun...
