SINK OR FLOAT SCIENCE EXPERIMENT FOR PRESCHOOL - K

I am doing a unit study with my preschool on Noah's Ark for the next few weeks. I decided do a science experiment that involved water. So I modified a sink or float experiment so that my preschooler and kindergartner could both do it!

Materials needed:

bowl of water
sink or float file foler game, you can print it off at File Folder Fun.
leaf
paper clip
ice cube
scissors
fork
bouncy ball
My new printable for my kindergartner (science experiment sheet) you can print it out HERE.

Taking turns I had each child put an item in the water to see if it would sink or float. My preschooler than would place the item card in the proper pocket in the file folder game. Sink or float

Than at the end of the experiment my older son filled out his experiment sheet.

  1. Awesome! I've never done this type of experiment with my kids...sometimes the simplest of experiments can overlooked! Stopping by from Science Sunday!

  2. That's awesome! My youngest has been using the Sink or Float work quite often at school and almost nightly he asks me if something sinks or floats. We keep a cup by the bathroom sink so he can test things as he asks me about them. He also observed last night that individually a lego guy's legs sink, and his hat sinks, but the head and torso float. And when put together, the entire lego man will float. So fascinating to see them take a lesson and run with it!

  4. I picked up Rookie Reader book "Will it Float or Sink?" by Melissa Stewart at a yard sale a few weekends ago and am getting ready to do this experiment with my kindergartener. (Check my blog in a few weeks for that post!) Thanks for sharing how you conducted the experiment with your kiddos; I can't wait to try this out with my son!
